ADASE has been fortunate to receive the opportunity to be trained in delivering the Friends programme in September 2008. The program has been designed by Dr. Paula Barrett and is acknowledged by the World Health Organisation. It is currently used in schools throughout Australia. There are several components to the program Friends for Life and Fun Friends. Friends for Life program is aimed at Pre-school, Primary, and High School students. The contents of the program assist to build self esteem and provide social skills training. Anxiety and depression treatment and prevention are also covered. Fun Friends is designed specifically for 4, 5 & 6 year olds. This program teaches emotional resilience. There are many skills to be gained from the educational programs: - Dealing with difficulties, bullying and peer pressure.
- Recognising signs of anxiety.
- Relaxation techniques.
- How to change negative “red” thinking into positive “green” thoughts.
- Problem solving and positive coping strategies.
- Understanding emotions in yourself and other people.
- How to be kind and empathetic.
- How to make and maintain friends
